Cr Glenda McLean (Mayor)

Tell us about your background? (Family, career, professional experiences)

I have lived and worked in different countries and different States of Australia. My experience includes executive roles in government, welfare, therapeutic roles and business operator and consultant. This enables me to appreciate the attractions and strengths of the Ararat Rural City municipality; and it gives me the confidence to suggest improvements to Council’s role in the lifestyle and wellbeing of our community.

What are your most enjoyable hobbies/interests?

Committed to lifelong learning, I am conducting research for my PhD at Federation University. I’m also starting from scratch as a gardener and it’s really challenging!

What do you see as the biggest strengths within the municipality of the Ararat Rural City and what is your vision for the next four years?

I am enthusiastic about working with Council and the communities on a revised 4 year plan and there’s a lot to be positive about. The municipality is in transition with Local Government changes, fiscal restraint and the Ararat bypass to consider. In managing challenges, the municipality has the energy and capacity to be a Centre of Excellence in rural living.
