Ararat Rural City Council has delayed the opening of its three outdoor pools due to the poor weather forecast for this weekend.

The Peter O’Rorke Lake Bolac Memorial Pool, the Willaura Memorial Pool and the Ararat Outdoor Olympic Pool were due to open on Saturday 30 November but will now open for the summer season on Saturday 7 December.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said pool staff were ready to go for this weekend but with forecast rain and temperatures in the mid to low teens, Council decided to postpone the openings.

Dr Harrison said staff were really excited to open the following weekend, with free entry for everyone on Saturday.

Season passes are again available for purchase at the Ararat Fitness Centre and would this year provide access to all three outdoor pools.

“At the Ararat outdoor pool, we have replaced the pump that feeds the water slide and water play space so the slide will be much faster and the water pressure much better,” Dr Harrison said.

“Swimming classes will also return to the Lake Bolac and Willaura pools, which is great for families who live in our rural areas.”

Dr Harrison said residents should stay tuned for Christmas and Australia Day celebrations coming up.

Season passes cost $60 for children (up to 18 years of age), $90 for adults and $100 for families (two adults, two children) $100. Casual entry into the pools is $3 for children, $4 for adults and $11 for families.

All three outdoor pools are closed on Christmas Day. Pool opening is subject to weather conditions – pools will be closed if there are thunderstorms or if the weather is deemed too cold.

Opening times for the pools are as follows:

Ararat Outdoor Olympic Pool

  • School days and public holidays – 6am to 9am (lap swimming), then 1pm to 7.30pm
  • Weekends and school holidays – 6am-7.30pm

Willaura and Lake Bolac pools:

  • School days and public holidays – 3.30pm to 7.30pm
  • School holidays and weekends – 2pm to 7.30pm
