Ararat Rural City Council is calling for volunteers to help tidy up their patch of the country by taking part in Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday.
CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the Council coordinates a Clean Up Australia Day effort every year, led by the Parks and Gardens Team.
Dr Harrison said the Council supplies gloves and rubbish bags for volunteers, who can register from 8am on Sunday March 3.
“Clean Up Australia Day is a great Aussie tradition and we encourage anyone interested to come along and give the Council a hand to clean up Ararat and surrounds,” he said.
Volunteers can register for Clean Up Australia Day at the Ararat and Grampians Visitor Information Centre, 91 High Street, from 8am on Sunday, with the clean-up effort winding up at midday
“Volunteers return the collected bags of rubbish to the visitor centre so that Council can sort and dispose of those at our transfer station,” Dr Harrison said.
Residents who are keen to take part should wear sturdy footwear, sun protection (long sleeves, hats, sunglasses) and sunscreen, and make sure they bring water and snacks along.
Dr Harrison said people could register any time after 8am with the last rubbish collection happening at 12pm back at the visitor centre.
