The Victorian Electoral Commission has announced Bill Braithwaite as the successful candidate to fill the vacancy on Ararat Rural City Council following the resignation of former councillor Paul Hooper.

Councillor-elect Braithwaite indicated to the VEC on Wednesday morning that he would accept the position, which was determined by countback preferences from the vacating councillor’s votes in the 2016 Ararat Rural City Council election.

“We welcome Bill as the successful councillor nominee to Ararat Rural City Council. We are excited to have him join Council to represent the community and our six other Councillors are looking forward to working alongside them,” Ararat Rural City Council Chief Executive Officer Allan Bawden said.

Councillor-elect Braithwaite will sign his official declaration at the Ararat Grampians Visitor Information Centre (91 High Street) on Thursday, November 30 at 9am.
