Road reconstruction projects nearing completion

Two road reconstruction projects – one in the Tatyoon area and one in Ararat – are nearing completion by the Ararat Rural City Council roadworks team.
Mt William Road west of Travellers Rest Road in the Tatyoon / Yalla Y Poora area of the municipality, has been rebuilt thanks to the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery fund.
Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the total cost of the Mt William Road project was $425,000.
Dr Harrison said the reconstruction had to be done because of the road’s poor condition due to the road surface breaking up in many areas.
The Council did a full width reconstruction on a 600m section and pavement repair work for another 1km on the south-bound lane.
“The major section of work has been finished and primer seal will be put on the finished section of the road shortly.
“There will be some ongoing work as the team does the pavement repair work on the south-bound lane, so residents will notice ongoing traffic management along the road.”
Dr Harrison said Elizabeth Street in Ararat is also being reconstructed between Vincent and Palmer Streets.
He said the project includes new kerb and channel, drainage works and the construction of a small section of footpath.
The $250,000 project was fully funded by Council. The work is due to be finished by the start of April, with the work being done by local company Ferguson Excavations.
