We are seeking a proactive and safety-focused Resource Recovery Centre Operator to support the efficient daily operation of our Resource Recovery Centre. About the Role
As a Resource Recovery Centre Operator, you’ll be a key member of Council’s Waste Services team. Your day-to-day work will involve helping customers, promoting recycling, ensuring responsible waste disposal and keeping facilities running smoothly. You will operate plant and equipment, manage records and cash handling, and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all centre users.
- Part-time (0.4 FTE - 15 hrs / week)
- $31.15/hr
Key Responsibilities
- Engage and guide customers to maximise recycling opportunities and responsible waste disposal.
- Safely operate plant and equipment to load and unload materials and conduct daily safety checks.
- Maintain Council facilities in a tidy, hygienic state and control on-site traffic, inspecting loads and directing customers appropriately.
- Accurately collect and balance fees, manage records and issue receipts.
- Always follow Council’s safety program and practices; observe all policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Council’s Risk Management, OHS, and environmental standards.
- Assist with general start-up and shut-down procedures and support other Waste Services team members as required.
About You
- Friendly and professional, with strong communication and customer service skills.
- Experience working in waste management or a similar operational role preferred; ability to operate mechanical plant and equipment highly regarded.
- Basic computer and administrative skills for cash handling and record-keeping.
- Endorsed licence or ticket (forklift, HR truck, backhoe loader etc) an advantage, or willing to obtain.
- Capable of safe lifting, manual handling, and maintaining Council facilities to a high standard.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
