Council meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6.00pm to discuss and decide on various Council business items. Meetings are held in-person within the Council Chamber, Shire Hall - 239 Barkly Street, Ararat - please see the schedule of dates listed below.
You can watch meetings live on Facebook on the day of the meeting or view the recording at a later date.
Council meetings are open to the public, however, we do ask that members arrive prior to 6:00pm, so that we can commence the meeting on time. After 6:00pm the doors will be closed to the public.

Council provides the opportunity for petitions and joint letters to be presented at Council meetings where they are related to issues in which Council has direct interest or responsibility. Petitions relating to town planning items are dealt with as part of the formal planning process, rather than separately at a Council meeting.

Requirements
- Every petition or joint letter presented to Council must be in writing (other than pencil), contain the request of the petitioners or signatories and be signed by at least 12 people.
- Every petition or joint letter must be signed by the persons whose names are appended to it by their names or marks, and, except in cases of incapacity or sickness, by no one else and the address of every petitioner or signatory must be clearly stated.
- Any signature appearing on a page which does not bear the text of the whole of the petition or request may not be considered by Council.
- Every page of a hard copy petition or joint letter must be a single page of paper and not be posted, stapled, pinned or otherwise affixed or attached to any piece of paper other than another page of the petition or joint letter.
- Electronic or online petitions, joint letters, memorials or like applications must contain the name and email address of each petitioner or signatory, which details will, for the purposes of this Rule 55, qualify as the address and signature of such petitioner or signatory.
- If a petition, joint letter, memorial or other like application relates to an operational matter, Council must refer it to the Chief Executive Officer for consideration.
Public question time will not exceed 15 minutes in duration. Questions submitted to Council must be:
- In writing, state the name and address of the person submitting the question and be in a form approved or permitted by Council; and
- Placed in the receptacle designated for the purpose at the place of the meeting prior to the commencement of the Council meeting or be lodged electronically at the prescribed email address prior to 5pm on the day of the Council meeting.
A time limit of 3 minutes per presenter will apply.
