July 2 - July 9 we celebrate NAIDOC Week. The 2023 National NAIDOC Week theme is For Our Elders. Across every generation, our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families. We pay our respects to the Elders we’ve lost and to those who continue fighting for us across all our Nations and we pay homage to them.
To help spark conversations around indigenous culture at the Library, we are holding a NAIDOC week craft workshop, based around animals that are significant in Indigenous Australian stories and culture. As kids create their paper animals to make these crafts, they can learn more about First Nation, Indigenous languages and the animals’ significance in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
Come and join us at the Ararat Library on Wednesday 5 July at 3pm!
