Ararat Rural City Council Takes Proactive Steps to Prepare for Fire Season
As the spring months progress, Ararat Rural City Council is already preparing for the upcoming fire season, with prevention plans underway to help protect the community against bushfires and grassfires.
Fire prevention activities aim to identify, analyse, prioritise, treat and evaluate all fire related risks by reducing the number of unplanned fires, assisting the rapid control of fires and increasing community awareness and preparedness.
As part of this process, Council will engage with the community in a range of ways to help mitigate and reduce the risk of bush and grass fires around private property.
The focus will be on properties identified by the Victorian Fire Risk Register (VFFR) as having a high to extreme risk rating.
Council will send letters to property owners in high-to-extreme risk areas, as identified by the VFFR. The letter will outline your responsibilities and include two green waste vouchers for use at Resource Recovery Centres.
These can be used to help with your pre-fire season clean-up before we start property inspections at the beginning of the fire danger period.
“Fire prevention is all about identifying, understanding, and managing fire risks,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.
“By doing this, we can reduce the number of accidental fires, help firefighters put out fires more quickly, and make sure the community is prepared.”
