Council Streamlines Waste Services for Efficiency and Low Rates

Ararat Rural City Council is consolidating its waste services across the municipality to boost budget efficiencies, streamline essential services and keep rates low for residents.

As part of these changes the Pomonal, Willaura, Elmhurst, and Moyston Transfer Stations will close from 5pm on Monday 30 June 2025.

The Ararat and Lake Bolac Transfer Stations will continue to operate as usual to serve the community's waste disposal needs.

These changes are necessary due to declining usage and ongoing operational costs, which have made the impacted transfer stations no longer financially viable. Council thanks the community for their cooperation whilst we implement these changes.

“We acknowledge the community’s concerns regarding these changes, however, these facilities are no longer financially viable for Council to maintain in their current format,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

“By closing these transfer stations, we estimate we’ll save about $200,000 a year for ratepayers. This decision reflects Council’s continued commitment to responsible financial management, ensuring we can continue to deliver essential services for the benefit of our community.”

Residents requiring additional waste bins can complete an Additional Waste Collection Form. To download a copy of this form, and for more information about Council’s waste services, please visit our website.

Hard copies of the form are also available from Council's municipal offices.
