Have Your Say: Community Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan

Ararat Rural City Council has commenced preliminary work on a new project focused on improving road safety within the municipality.

Council is working with Geelong based civil engineering company, DWB Engineering Pty Ltd, to develop a comprehensive Community Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan.

The Strategy and Action Plan aims to enhance road safety infrastructure across Ararat Rural City and promote safe driving practices in the community.

This project is supported by the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Local Government Grant Program, which awarded Ararat Rural City Council $49,540 to support the planning and development of Council’s Community Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2030.

TAC’s Local Government Grant Program provides opportunities for Victorian local councils to improve road safety in their local communities. The program supports projects aligned with the Victorian Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030 that adopt Safe System principles to reduce accidents.

The program distributes more than $2.5 million in grant funding across 38 Victorian local councils to support projects that help prevent road trauma, particularly among vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of the community consultation process, DWB Engineering are facilitating a community questionnaire to collect information on how residents use our local roads and to obtain their perspectives on road safety throughout the municipality.

Complete the online questionnaire.

“Road safety is a key priority for Council, and this project, informed by the community's input, will help us to create a safer environment for all road users in our municipality,” says Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong.

“We encourage all residents to participate in the community consultation process, as their contribution is essential in ensuring the best possible outcomes for everyone.”
