Agriculture Victoria are hosting a free, comprehensive, two-day workshop in March, led by Agriculture Victoria Land Management Extension Officer Clem Sturmfels.

The workshop is suitable for people new to farming as well as those with plenty of farming experience. Each day will start with presentations and activities in the rooms at Moyston Recreation Reserve, followed by a farm visit after lunch.

Sturmfels encourages any residents who are looking into water options, planning a new dam, or who are signees to the East Grampians Rural Pipeline, to come along to the workshops.

The workshop will feature a presentation by local farmer Anthony Pola, who runs a mixed farming enterprise 10km north of Moyston with his wife and parents. Pola will give practical examples of the family’s experiences installing tanks, troughs, and over 5km of piping across their farmland.

Topics covered across the workshop dates will include:

• Preparing a water plan

• Calculating your water needs

• Planning your pipeline

• Farm dams

• Pipeline hydraulics and design

• Pipes, fittings and pumps

• Pipeline installation and construction.

DATES: Tuesday 18 Mar + Tuesday 25 Mar

TIME: 10am - 3pm (both days)

To assist with catering, register your interest in attending the workshops.

“AgVic have planned this workshop thoroughly, with a very practical, on-ground approach alongside expert advice and discussion,” says Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for our community’s farmers – whatever your level of farming experience may be – to ask questions and collect new ideas on optimising your water resources, ensuring a sustainable future for your farm."
