Living with disability in Ararat

Ararat is a thriving, multicultural community that welcomes and demonstrates diversity. We have a large and very engaged disability community across our region, and Council is committed to providing accessibility and services to ensure that we offer an excellent experience for both residents and visitors alike.

In late 2025, Council established a Disability Action Plan Working Group, to guide our efforts to ensure that our revised Disability Action Plan meets the specific needs of our residents.

Council is currently updating its Disability Action Plan, with a Discussion Paper currently out for comment, and a range of consultation sessions underway until mid- September.

The results of this engagement will help turn our current Discussion Paper into a formal Disability Action Plan – designed to prioritise Council projects and initiatives for those living with disability and their carers and families.
