Casual Event Support Officer
Ararat Rural City Council is looking for Casual Event Support Officers to help deliver smooth, safe and enjoyable events at the Ararat Town Hall and other council venues. This is a great casual opportunity for people who enjoy being active, working with the community and contributing to memorable performances and functions.
About the role
As a Casual Event Support Officer, you will be part of the team that makes events happen behind the scenes and out on the floor. You will support a wide range of activities, from community performances and concerts to private functions and civic events, helping to create a welcoming and well-organised experience for all visitors.
What you’ll be doing
From setup to pack-down, you will be hands-on with event logistics, including unloading and loading equipment, setting up chairs, building stages and organising seating in line with safety and fire regulations. You will welcome guests, check tickets, assist with wayfinding, operate point-of-sale systems, help keep venues clean and tidy, and provide friendly, helpful customer service throughout each event. The role may also include helping with basic sound and lighting setup, stocktaking consumables, serving food and drinks at the bar or tables, and supporting security, fire warden and general safety responsibilities as required.
Who we’re looking for
This role suits someone with a positive attitude, strong customer focus and the ability to stay calm and organised when things get busy. You will bring good communication skills, high attention to detail, the ability to multitask and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and help wherever needed. Weekend and evening availability is important, as most events take place outside standard business hours. No prior events experience is required, just enthusiasm, reliability and a genuine interest in live events and community activities.
Training, requirements and conditions
Casual Event Support Officers are employed on a casual basis under the Ararat Rural City Council Enterprise Agreement at Band 3 level. While previous experience is not essential, you will need to demonstrate a commitment to customer service and be willing to obtain required certifications such as Responsible Service of Alcohol, Working with Children Check, Level 2 First Aid and fire warden training after commencement if you do not already hold them.
