Ararat & Lake Bolac Libraries Are Welcoming Residents This Winter
Ararat Rural City Council is inviting residents and visitors to make the most of the colder months by visiting the Ararat and Lake Bolac Libraries, with a wide range of resources, programs, and services available for all ages.
With new books arriving every few weeks, the Libraries continue to offer an up-to-date and diverse collection, alongside free access to computers and Council WiFi. Friendly staff are on hand to help people find what they need, whether it is reading material, digital support, or information about local services.
A strong calendar of children’s programs is also supporting early learning and family connection. Baby Rhyme Time, held each Tuesday at 10.30am during school terms, introduces babies and toddlers up to two years of age to songs, rhymes, and stories in a fun and interactive setting. Families are encouraged to stay after the session and enjoy free play in the children’s area.
Preschool Storytime runs on Thursdays at 10.30am during school terms, offering children aged three to five an engaging mix of stories, songs, and themed craft activities. The sessions support early literacy development and provide a welcoming space for children and carers to connect.
Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Bob Sanders, said the Libraries are important community spaces, particularly during winter. “Our Libraries are a place where people can come in out of the cold, spend some time, and connect with others,” Cr Sanders said. “It is not just about borrowing books. It is about learning new skills, helping kids get a strong start with reading, and making sure everyone has access to information and technology.”
Council’s Library services also extend beyond Ararat through outreach visits to Elmhurst, Pomonal, Moyston, Streatham, and Willaura, ensuring residents across the municipality can access books and resources locally.
A free home delivery service is available for residents who are unable to visit the Library due to illness or limited mobility, with deliveries provided by volunteers on a fortnightly basis.
Support is also available for those needing help with digital access, including one-on-one assistance to navigate online services.
Residents can contact the Ararat Library on (03) 5352 1722 or email [email protected] for more information about programs and services.
