Council Launches Annual Fire Prevention Inspections For Summer
Ararat Rural City is now officially in the Fire Danger Period from 15 December 2025 to 1 May 2026, and Council’s annual fire prevention inspections are commencing to help reduce bushfire risk across the municipality.
Council Fire Prevention Officers will be visiting properties over the coming weeks, assessing compliance and advising on actions to reduce fire risks in line with CFA and local requirements.
The inspections aim to ensure all landowners maintain properties in accordance with local laws and CFA recommendations, including clearing long grass, removing combustible material, and addressing fire hazards identified in previous seasons.
Property owners found to be non‑compliant will receive notices outlining clear steps required to meet safety standards, and follow‑up inspections may be undertaken to ensure works have been completed. Residents are urged to prepare their properties, understand what they can and cannot do under fire restrictions, and act promptly if they receive a fire prevention notice.
Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said community safety remains a top priority as the municipality enters the height of the fire season. “Each year, we work with property owners to make sure our region is prepared for fire season, and these inspections are an important part of that process,” Dr Harrison said.
“Maintaining your property is not just about following guidelines; it demonstrates care for your neighbours and the wider community, especially now that fire restrictions are in force,” he said. “We’re asking everyone to take proactive steps now, so we can all head into summer with greater peace of mind.”
Council encourages residents to act promptly to minimise bushfire risks, support inspection efforts, and seek advice if unsure about compliance. For further guidance and to report concerns, please call Council on (03) 5355 0200.
