Significant kerb and channel works on two of Willaura’s central roads have begun this week.

Council is constructing 600 metres of new kerb and channel – the concrete drainage gutters on the roadway’s edge, designed to prevent water entering under the road surface – along Walkerville Street and Wileman Streets in Willaura.

Works will also involve the widening of the existing road pavement.

The improvements will address issues of poor drainage impacting abutting properties, particularly along Wileman Street. As part of the project, tradespeople have also installed approximately 300 metres of new underground stormwater drainage and facilitated the renewal of aged water mains within the works area. These works were completed in collaboration with GWM Water.

The works are complemented by new footpath, which was recently constructed within the same sections of the roads.

The completion of the kerb and channel and road pavement works are slated for late December.

“Kerb and channel maintenance is an important component of our ongoing improvements to the municipality’s drainage network,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison.

“In undertaking these key works in two of Willaura’s busiest streets, we’re investing in the township’s future by ensuring the road’s condition remains healthy, reducing the likelihood of potholes and other defects which can result from roads deteriorating over time.”
