Acoustic Upgrade Enhances Sound Quality at Pomonal Community Hall

Sound generated within the Pomonal Community Hall, whether quiet or loud, will now be clearer and more comfortable to hear thanks to a new acoustic upgrade delivered by Ararat Rural City Council.

Funded through Regional Development Victoria’s Tiny Towns Fund, acoustic panels were recently installed by contractor 61 Productions, under the supervision of the technical team from the Ararat Town Hall.

The new panels have been designed to blend seamlessly with the hall’s existing interior. While visually subtle, they make a significant difference to the way sound behaves in the space. By absorbing excess sound - particularly sharp, high-pitched noise - the panels reduce echo and unwanted “ringing”, creating a calmer, clearer listening environment.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the upgrade had already been warmly received by the community.

“I spoke to a number of residents at the hall this week and they are very pleased with the outcome of the panel installation,” Cr Sanders said.

“The improvement in sound quality will benefit a wide range of events, from small meetings and presentations to weddings and larger community gatherings. Along with the recently installed portable PA system, the hall is looking and sounding fantastic.”

The acoustic upgrade forms part of a broader package of improvements made possible through a $200,000 Tiny Towns grant allocated to Ararat Rural City Council following the February 2024 Pomonal fire.
