Ararat Fitness Centre Welcomes New Instructors, Upgrades Facilities, and Celebrates Record Holiday Program Participation

Ararat Rural City Council is pleased to announce a period of strong growth and improvement at the Ararat Fitness Centre, with new staff joining the team, recent facility upgrades, and record participation in programs over the winter school holidays.

Ararat Fitness Centre has welcomed three new Learn to Swim teachers who will support local families to build skills and confidence in the water. The Centre has also engaged new Aqua Aerobics instructors, with more classes scheduled to start in August, providing a broader range of options for residents looking to stay active and healthy.

In addition to strengthening programs, Council has invested in facility improvements at Ararat Fitness Centre, including the replacement of stadium lights to improve visibility and support a better experience for users. Council is aware of an ongoing issue with roof leaks at the facility and has commenced repair works to address the problem, ensuring the Centre remains safe, welcoming, and fit for purpose, especially for the basketball and futsal players.

The recent Play Gym program, delivered over the winter school holidays, attracted more than 100 participants, the highest number ever recorded for the program. The strong attendance reflects the community’s enthusiasm for accessible, family-friendly activities and the Centre’s growing role in supporting health and wellbeing across Ararat Rural City.

Ararat Rural City Council is also advancing plans for a new indoor multi-sports facility in Ararat and is seeking funding for a new $12 million development that would deliver three basketball courts, dedicated gymnastics facilities, a squash court, female-friendly change rooms, a first aid room, and other supporting amenities.

Ararat Rural City Council Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tim Harrison, said the progress at Ararat Fitness Centre demonstrated Council’s commitment to investing in services that matter to local people. “Ararat Fitness Centre is an important community hub, and it is encouraging to see more families, children, and older residents choosing to use the facilities and programs,” Dr Harrison said. “Bringing new Learn to Swim and Aqua Aerobics teachers into the team means we can expand our offerings, support water safety, and give people more reasons to stay active close to home. We know there is more to do, and we are getting on with that work so the Centre can continue to evolve with our community’s needs.”

Council encourages residents to explore the range of programs available at Ararat Fitness Centre and to keep an eye out for updates on upcoming classes and activities. For more information, visit the Ararat Fitness Centre section of Council’s website or contact Council’s Customer Service team.
