Ararat Libraries On The Move With Outreach, Digital Literacy And Coding Programs

Ararat Rural City Council is making it easier for residents across the municipality to access library services, with an active outreach schedule alongside new digital literacy and coding opportunities.

Library outreach continues to bring books, resources, and services directly to smaller communities throughout the municipality. Residents can visit the mobile service at Elmhurst on Mondays from 10am to 12.30pm and Streatham from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. On Tuesdays, the service visits Pomonal from 10.30am to 11.30am, Moyston from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, and Willaura from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.

Council is also inviting community members to build confidence with technology through its Digital Literacy sessions at the Ararat Library. Running on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6 July, sessions will be held on 6 and 7 July, and 13 and 14 July, before resuming in August.

For younger residents, Coding Club continues to offer hands-on learning during the school term. Designed for children aged 8 to 11, the program introduces participants to beginner-friendly programming, game creation, and real-world coding concepts. Sessions will run this week and next week, with additional sessions for new starters on 3 and 4 August, held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4pm to 5pm.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore robotics using the library’s Sphero Bolt+ robots, learning how to program and guide them through interactive challenges within the library space.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the range of library services reflects Council’s commitment to ensuring all residents can access learning and connection opportunities, regardless of where they live. “Our library team does a great job making sure people right across the municipality can access books, technology, and support,” Cr Sanders said.

“The outreach service is a simple way for people in our smaller communities to stay connected, while programs like Digital Literacy and Coding Club are opening up new skills for all ages.”

Residents are encouraged to drop in to their local outreach stop or visit the Ararat or Lake Bolac Libraries to take part in upcoming programs.
