Ararat Rural City Council Donates Compost to St Mary’s Primary School
Ararat Rural City Council has proudly donated high-quality compost and mulch to St Mary’s Primary School this week, supporting the school’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and hands-on education for students.
The donation, which builds on council’s partnership approach to community gardens, aims to encourage young people to engage with sustainable gardening practices and enhance green spaces in their learning environment.
This high-quality compost and mulch is made from green waste we collect in your green waste bins, then processed through advanced rapid composting technology, and has been donated to the garden to enhance the productivity and health of the school garden.
The compost is produced as part of a joint project between Ararat Rural City Council and Gaia EnviroTech to make high quality and reasonably priced compost available to the community.
Mayor Jo Armstrong said council was pleased to be able to assist St Mary’s Primary School and recognised the enthusiasm shown by students and staff for growing their own produce.
“We’re delighted to see the next generation taking an active interest in caring for their surroundings and learning where food comes from,” Mayor Armstrong said. “These small acts can have a big impact in teaching children about the environment, and it’s wonderful to see our local schools leading by example.”
The compost donation reflects council’s ongoing support for community groups and schools working to strengthen environmental outcomes across Ararat municipality.
Council encourages all residents to connect with local initiatives and keep the conversation going about sustainable ways to care for our region.
Compost and mulch is available to the general public and can be ordered via the Customer Service team at Ararat Rural City Council on (03) 5355 0200, [email protected] or visiting us in Vincent Street, Ararat.
