Ararat Rural City Welcomes 16 New Australian Citizens

Ararat Rural City Council proudly welcomed 16 new Australian citizens at an official ceremony held at the Alexandra Oval Community Centre on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

Family, friends, Councillors, and community members gathered to witness conferees from eight different countries pledge their commitment to Australia and take their final step in becoming citizens. 

The new citizens originated from the Philippines, New Zealand, Malaysia, Scotland, Taiwan, Vietnam, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders officiated the ceremony and highlighted the importance of the occasion for the region.
“Citizenship ceremonies are among the most special events on our Council calendar,” Mayor Sanders said. “It is always inspiring to see people from all over the world choose to call Ararat home. Becoming an Australian citizen marks a major milestone, and we are proud they have chosen to make this community their own.”

“Australia welcomes you as a full member of one of the most diverse nations on Earth, where our citizenship is a bond that unites us all. Today, your new nation says to you, welcome home.”

The ceremony featured the official pledge of commitment, the presentation of citizenship certificates alongside a native tree for each recipient, and a formal welcome from Council. Attendees concluded the celebration with light refreshments.

Council extends its warmest congratulations to all 16 new citizens and officially welcomes them as valued members of the Ararat Rural City community.
