Australian Red Cross Blood Bank Bus returns to Ararat this May

Ararat Rural City residents can again donate life-saving blood when the Australian Red Cross Blood Bank Bus returns to Ararat from 5 to 9 May 2026.

The mobile donor centre will be set up at the Ararat RSL/Ararat Library car park at 74-76 High Street, Ararat, giving locals convenient access to book an appointment and roll up their sleeves.

Donors are encouraged to book as early as possible to secure their preferred time.

Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is calling on locals, especially those with type O and A blood, to donate blood. Nationally, more than 13,000 donations were needed over the Easter period alone to ensure blood was available for people across injury, accident, emergencies, cancer treatment, blood disorders, and surgery.

Lifeblood has seen appointments dip in the lead-up to Easter and is now asking donors to book ahead, keep their appointment, and donate as close to home as possible to help keep reserves strong.

In major trauma cases, it can take up to 100 blood donations to save a single life, and Lifeblood Executive Director Donor Experience Cath Stone said type O and A donors were especially important right now. Even if you do not know your blood type, you can still make a difference, as all blood types are needed, she said.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders added that the return of the Blood Bank Bus showed the strong community spirit across the municipality. “Our community has really embraced the Blood Bank Bus and I am confident Ararat residents will once again turn out in force to support Lifeblood this May,” Cr Sanders said.

“Donating blood is a simple, practical way we can look after each other. If you can donate, I encourage you to make an appointment, bring a friend, and help make a real difference.”

Council is urging both regular donors and first-timers to get involved and help meet ongoing demand for blood products.
