Circus Magic Takes Over Ararat Rural City for the Spring School Holidays

Ararat Rural City Council are excited to invite local families to enjoy an action-packed School Holidays Program this spring, with activities running from late September through to early‑October at the Ararat Library, Ararat Fitness Centre, Ararat Gallery TAMA, and Ararat Town Hall.

Council’s Spring School Holiday Program features Movie Monday sessions throughout the school holidays from 2pm onwards, and extended Lego Club afternoons on Thursdays from 3pm – 5pm, at the Ararat Library.

Ararat Gallery TAMA will host free Loom Knitting & Friendship Bracelet Braiding workshops for ages 8 and up on Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24 September, from 10.30am – 12.30pm, and an art drop-in session for ages 3 – 16 on Friday 2nd October, from 10.30am – 12:30pm. All sessions will run in the Gallery Studio, aimed at encouraging young people to experiment with materials and explore their creativity in a relaxed studio setting.

The Gallery will also host a self-guided Activity Station set up in foyer daily 10-4pm, for all visiting families to engage in. Families are welcome to stay for as little or as long as they like, with no bookings required and all materials supplied (All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times).

Families can also head to the Ararat Fitness Centre for Play Gym sessions on Thursday 24 September, Monday 28 September, and Thursday 1 October. Children aged 0–4 can join the 9.15am to 10am session and 4–12-year-olds can attend from 10am to 11am for $9 per child. Aqua aerobics sessions for kids will also run on Wednesday 23 September, Tuesday 29 September and Thursday 1 October at 4:30pm for $8 per child. Bookings are essential for all sessions at Ararat Fitness Centre.

At Ararat Town Hall, audiences can enjoy Mission To The Moon on Tuesday 29 September, a captivating journey with three quirky, acrobatic astronauts, blending circus artistry, clowning, and real space science. The performance is on from 1pm to 1:55pm, with tickets starting from $10 and group discounts available.

For those seeking more circus style fun, Gum San’s Great Hall will host two one-hour circus workshops on 22 Tuesday September, with workshops running at 2pm and 3:30pm. Discover the art of circus performance through hands-on practice in hula hooping, juggling, and plate spinning.

"We want to help make the school holidays as easy and fun as possible for local parents and children," said Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Bob Sanders. "You don't need to pack up the car and drive hours away to find something great for the kids. Our Council team has put together a really fantastic mix of free and low-cost activities close to home. I really hope everyone gets out there and enjoys what's on offer."

The full Spring School Holiday Activities program, including session times, ages, ticket information, and contact details for each venue, is available on Council’s website.

For more information, families can contact Ararat Library, Ararat Fitness Centre, Ararat Gallery TAMA, or Ararat Town Hall directly.
