Council Launches Expressions of Interest for Environment Working Group
Ararat Rural City Council is pleased to announce the launch of Expressions of Interest for its Environment Working Group.
Council’s Environmental Working Group (EWG) has been established to assist in the development of Ararat Rural City’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2024-2034, and to advise upon its implementation and review.
Council developed the Environmental Sustainability Strategy through consultation with the EWG and aims to continue engagement during the implementation and review of the strategy. Development and successful implementation of this strategy requires scientific input, advice and community engagement to navigate the policy complexity as it exists around issues of the environment and sustainability.
The role of the EWG includes contributing to meeting agendas and providing community feedback on issues of sustainability and the environment within the municipality, and based on evidence, best practice, and feedback from EWG meetings, contribute to the scheduled review of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
“We recognise the increasing level of community interest and engagement in this space and there is a real need for us to manage a range of stakeholder interests,” said Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Bob Sanders.
“The Environmental Working Group is an ideal opportunity for the community to get involved in the process and contribute to making a lasting impact on our local environment.”
Expression of Interest can be submitted by post to Council at PO Box 246, Ararat, 3377, emailed to [email protected], or through the Engage Ararat website: www.engage.ararat.vic.gov.au/eoi-environmental-working-group
Expressions of Interest should include the following information:
- Your interest in environmental management and sustainability;
- Your previous experience or qualifications in environmental and sustainability matters; and
- Your involvement in environmental and/or sustainability community groups or sector.
Members of the EWG are selected following the EOI process through discussions with a panel consisting of Council’s CEO (or their Nominee), and a member of the existing EWG (nominated by the group).
EOI submissions close on Friday 4 December 2026 at 5pm. For more information, please refer to the Environmental Working Group Terms of Reference, available via the Engage Ararat website.
