Furniture donation a combined effort

We’ve got a really good story to tell about how business and Council can work together to achieve great results for the community!

ANDRITZ Hydro has been working at the Ararat Terminal Station in Elmhurst for the past three months and during that time 35 employees have stayed in four rentals during their rotations.

Now ANDRITZ Hydro has wrapped up their works and ended the property leases they were faced with the conundrum of what to do with all of the near-new furniture, appliances and other household goods!

Elders property manager Jessica Ward had a grand idea…donate it to the community! She knew just the person to help make it happen…her dad Mayor Cr Bob Sanders!

The result? Four households’ worth of furniture is now in safe storage with Council, which will now work with local community support agencies to gift the furniture to residents who really need it.

In addition, Neighbourhood House, which is managed by our Deputy Mayor, Cr Teli Kaur, arranged for the unwanted household cleaning products from the rentals to be distributed to the network of families her team regularly deals with, which was gratefully received right before Christmas!

A big shout out to Council’s Rapid Response team who’ve spent the past few days moving all the furniture to Council storage. And, of course, a huge thank you to ANDRITZ Hydro for supporting some of our community’s most vulnerable people. We will remember your generosity for a long time to come!
