Harriet Goodall artist talk at Ararat Gallery TAMA

Harriet Goodall, renowned Australian fibre sculptor, will share insights into her creative practice at a special artist talk at Ararat Gallery TAMA on Friday 13 March 2026, from 11 am to 12 pm.

Presented in conjunction with Grampians Texture, the event offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from an artist whose work is inspired by the Australian landscape and made from natural and reclaimed materials.

Ms Goodall is known for transforming grasses, vines, wire, and other found objects into expressive, large-scale fibre sculptures that explore ideas of identity, place, and ecological connection.

Drawing on basketry, tapestry, and metalwork techniques, her practice combines traditional skills with contemporary design, resulting in richly textured works held in private and commercial collections. She has taught thousands of students in Australia and overseas through workshops and online courses and continues to mentor emerging makers through her studio on Gundungurra Country in regional New South Wales.

The artist talk will explore Ms Goodall’s materials, methods, and influences, including her long-standing engagement with rural life and environmental themes. Attendees will hear about recent projects, commissions, and her return to practice following successful treatment for breast cancer, which has further shaped her outlook and approach to making. There will also be time for questions from the audience, providing insight for practicing artists, students, and anyone interested in contemporary craft.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the event was an excellent chance for both residents and visitors to the region to connect with a nationally recognised artist in an intimate gallery setting. “This is a rare opportunity for people to meet an artist who has built an impressive career,” Cr Sanders said. “I think that Harriet’s story will resonate with a lot of people in our local area, particularly those who live and work on the land.

“Ararat Gallery TAMA has a proud history of presenting leading textile and fibre artists, and this talk is another example of the high-quality programs that keep drawing people into our city,” he said.

The Harriet Goodall artist talk is $5 to attend, and bookings are essential to manage capacity. To book, visit https://www.araratgallerytama.com.au/event/harriet-goodall-artist-talk/ or call into the Ararat Visitor Information Centre located at the Ararat Gallery (TAMA).
