Have Your Say: Council Invites Community Feedback on Proposed Road Name

Ararat Rural City Council is inviting the community to provide their feedback on a proposal to name an unnamed road in Moyston.

Following the August Council Meeting, Council has commenced the formal process of naming the unnamed road off Moyston–Dunkeld Road, opposite White Patch Road. The proposed name is Prospectors Lane.

A new home was recently constructed along this road, and it now requires a formal address to ensure accurate property identification for essential services, including postal delivery, utilities, and emergency services.

As part of the formal process, Council is seeking community feedback on the proposed name, as recommended under the Geographic Names Victoria Guidelines. Adjoining landowners will receive written notice of Council’s intention to name the road Prospectors Lane.

The name Prospectors Lane was suggested by a nearby property owner. It references Moyston's rich history, particularly its connection to the Victorian gold rush and past mining activities.

Feedback submissions are also now open via the Engage Ararat platform and will be open until 5 October 2025.

Council will consider any submissions received during the consultation period at a future Council Meeting.

"To ensure the proposed name truly reflects our community's values, we're inviting everyone to have their say,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

“Seeking feedback from the community is a crucial part of our work at Council. It helps us make informed decisions, ensures residents' voices are heard, and upholds our commitment to good governance.”
