Local family on the map as Withers Lane approved

Ararat Rural City Council has approved the official naming of an unnamed road off Moyston–Dunkeld Road in Moyston as Withers Lane.

Councillors endorsed the road name at the February Council Meeting on Tuesday, with the name now set to be submitted to the Registrar of Geographic Names for final approval.

The decision was informed by feedback gathered through a comprehensive community consultation process conducted last year.

The Withers family has been part of the Moyston community since the early 1850s.

Mayor Councillor Bob Sanders said it was pleasing to see strong community involvement in the road-naming process.

“It’s terrific that dozens of people from Moyston and the surrounding area took part in this road naming process,” Cr Sanders said.

“It shows our local history is very much respected, and this naming is a fitting recognition of a family with long-standing ties to the community.”
