Local Partnerships Bring Learning To Life For Ararat Families
Ararat Rural City Council is continuing to support early learning through meaningful, hands-on experiences, with Supported Playgroup families recently taking part in engaging excursions to two local businesses.
Building on recent postcard activities, families visited the Ararat Post Office where Post Leader Scotney welcomed the group for a behind-the-scenes tour. Children and parents explored how mail is sorted and delivered, gaining a real-world understanding of how communication connects communities.
The visit sparked curiosity and excitement, with playgroupers seeing a working post office in action. Council extends its thanks to Scotney and the team for sharing their time and knowledge to create an authentic learning experience.
In a separate excursion, families visited Woolworths Ararat, extending learning from the playgroup’s dramatic play supermarket setup. Children were welcomed by store staff and taken on a guided tour, meeting fresh food team members Tanya, Katie, Fiona and Jed, along with Store Manager Bruce.
The experience allowed children to connect their play-based learning with real-life environments. They observed staff stocking shelves, preparing produce and assisting customers, while recognising familiar foods and processes from their play sessions.
Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said these experiences highlight the value of community connections in early childhood development. “Experiences like these give children the opportunity to explore the world around them in a practical and engaging way, while strengthening their sense of connection to their local community,” Dr Harrison said.
“We are fortunate to have local businesses and organisations that are willing to open their doors and support our youngest residents to learn, grow and build confidence through shared experiences.”
Council’s Supported Playgroups form part of a broader commitment to children and youth services, helping families access inclusive, supportive environments that encourage learning through play and community participation.
