Loving homes needed (again) as Ararat Pound reaches cat-pacity
Ararat Rural City Council is inviting the community to consider adopting a cat (or two), with the Council pound currently at full capacity.
A wide range of cats are now available for adoption, including kittens and adult cats of different ages, colours, and temperaments. All cats have been fully vetworked, meaning they are microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, and ready to join their new homes.
Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the Council was pleased to see strong community support for animal adoption, following a successful cat and kitten adoption day last month.
“We had a terrific response at our recent adoption day, with 11 cats finding new homes, and we thank everyone who came along and supported the initiative,” Cr Sanders said.
“We now have more cats ready to go, and there is a real mix of personalities. Whether you are after a playful kitten or a more relaxed companion, there is likely a cat here that will suit your household.”
Council’s Community Safety Team is encouraging anyone considering pet ownership to explore adoption as a first option.
“Adopting a cat not only gives an animal a second chance, it also helps us manage capacity at the pound and continue supporting animal welfare across the municipality,” Cr Sanders said.
Residents interested in adopting can complete an online application via the Ararat Rural City Council website or contact the Community Safety Team on 03 5355 0200 to discuss options and arrange a meet and greet.
