Major upgrade to start at Ararat Tennis Club

The Ararat Tennis Club facilities are about to undergo a $700,000 major upgrade, with improvements scheduled to begin on Tuesday 7 April by Ararat Rural City Council.

The project includes new court lights (up to 350 LUX), accessible footpaths with lighting, a new carpark and disabled car parking right near the courts. General safety lighting will also be installed, as well as a new fence around the precinct.

Council contributed $120,000 towards the project and secured a $560,000 grant from the State Government. The Ararat Tennis Club contributed $20,000.

ARCC Mayor Councillor Bob Sanders said the improvements would make it easier for people of all abilities to easily and safely move about the precinct and the 350 LUX court lights would make night play much more enjoyable.

“Tennis has traditionally been a popular sport in our region, especially at night, so these improvements are really going to bring the facility up to exceptional standards,” said Cr Sanders.

“By bringing the facility up to today’s standards, it opens the door for the club to attract a greater diversity of members, as well as the opportunity to expand its competition and even host big events. It’s a really exciting project for our community and I commend the Ararat Tennis Club volunteers for driving it.”

The first package of works will be delivered by SHS Civil (civil works), MP Electrical & Solar (court lights). The fencing contract is still being finalised.

The project is expected to be finished before the end of June.
