Major Upgrades to Ararat Tennis Club Lighting Well Underway

Work is progressing well on the $700,000 transformation of the Ararat Tennis Club, with the project reaching its next key milestone this week as light tower installations get underway.

The bases for the new court lighting towers are now firmly in place. The next phase will see a specialised crane brought on-site to lift and secure the top sections of the towers into position, subject to ground conditions being firm and stable enough to safely support the heavy machinery.

The comprehensive precinct upgrade is jointly funded through a $560,000 grant secured by Ararat Rural City Council from the Victorian State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, alongside a $120,000 investment from Council and $20,000 from the Ararat Tennis Club.

Once complete, the project will deliver state-of-the-art 350 LUX LED court lighting, making evening matches safer, brighter, and more enjoyable for players and spectators alike.

In addition to elite-standard lighting, the works feature extensive accessibility and safety enhancements across the entire precinct, including:

  • Dedicated on-site disabled parking bays directly adjacent to the courts
  • Smooth, fully accessible footpaths complete with safety lighting
  • Clear, modern site signage
  • Upgraded perimeter fencing surrounding the facility

“Tennis has always been a hugely popular sport in our region, particularly night competition, so bringing this facility up to modern standards is a fantastic result for our community,” Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison said.

“These upgrades ensure people of all abilities can safely access and move around the precinct. Upgrading the lighting opens the door for the club to expand its night competitions, run broader community programming, and attract major regional events.”

The State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund is designed to support community projects to boost local sports participation and upgrade vital facilities.

Civil works for the Ararat Tennis Club project are being delivered by SHS Civil, with MP Electrical & Solar executing the court lighting installation. The full project is expected to be completed by the summer season, depending on weather conditions.
