Nominations Now Open to Recognise Outstanding First Nations Leaders
Do you know someone inspirational? Ararat Rural City Council is encouraging community members to take part in celebrating the leadership and achievements of First Nations people by submitting nominations for the 14th Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll and the 27th Ricci Marks Awards.
The Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll acknowledges Aboriginal leaders past and present, recognising their lasting contributions to their communities and the state. Since 2011, 158 First Nations people in Victoria have been inducted.
The Ricci Marks Awards celebrate young First Nations people aged 16 to 25 who are making a difference through leadership, creativity, and commitment to community. Each recipient also receives support to further their aspirations through a bursary.
Ararat Rural City Council Chief Executive Officer, Dr Tim Harrison, said the recognition of First Nations leaders is a meaningful way to highlight stories of community and achievement.
“Nominating someone for these awards is a chance to recognise the people who inspire us and who quietly but powerfully shape our communities,” Dr Harrison said. “Whether it is long-standing leadership and advocacy, or the energy and vision of emerging young people, these awards are about celebrating contribution, courage, and culture.”
Nominations are open now and close on Friday 3 October 2025. More information, along with nomination details, is available at https://www.firstpeoplesrelations.vic.gov.au/VAHR.
