Pomonal Community Hall battery progresses

The Pomonal Community Hall Battery project is progressing, with contractor Indigo Power on site this week to continue planning for the new energy asset that will provide backup power to the Hall during outages and emergencies.

The energy backup system, comprising of a 24kW/64kWhbattery integrated with the existing 10kW solar PV battery is expected to provide up to two days’ back-up power to the Pomonal Community Hall.

This will give the local community a dependable place to gather, charge phones and devices, access information, and take refuge during emergencies. In a disaster-prone area like Pomonal, having a powered and reliable community hub can make a real difference.

“A highlight of the visit was the opportunity for community members to drop in, see what was happening, and ask questions,” said Mayor, Councillor Bob Sanders. “Residents were keen to learn more about how the battery will work and how it will support Pomonal during power outages. The strong local interest told us just how important this project is to the community.

“Council is proud to oversee this project in partnership with the Pomonal community,” he said. “The battery project is another step towards strengthening local resilience and ensuring the community is better prepared for future challenges.”

The Pomonal Community Hall Battery is part of Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance’s Powering Resilience in the Regions project, supported by the Victorian Government through the 100 Neighbourhood Batteries program (Round 2).

The battery is expected to be installed by mid this year.
