Progress Continues on Local Infrastructure and Housing Development Projects

Ararat Rural City Council is pleased to share a progress update on key infrastructure projects delivered under its capital works program.
Works on the Ararat Pony Club’s new covered sports arena are entering the final stages. Following the successful installation of the arena sand and fencing, the power supply and lighting systems are now fully operational. The remaining drainage works will be finalised in the coming weeks.

The new arena will meet the needs of local women and girls, support increased sport and physical activity opportunities all year round in all weather, and help them reach their full potential. The new facilities will also benefit a broad range of other users, including the Mount Cole Equestrian Association, Midland Zone of Pony Club Victoria, nearby pony clubs and other horse-related activities, as well as other sports, community and educational initiatives. 

The project is supported by the Federal Government’s Play Our Way program.

Progress is also steady on a second major project, with demolition well underway at the new 87 Queen Street housing development. Located on the former Prestige Mill site, this private development project will deliver up to 90 new homes to help meet local housing demand. 

Council received $7.3 million from the Federal Government’s Housing Support Program to fund essential infrastructure, including roads, footpaths, drainage, and utilities. 

“We’re really pleased to see these major projects taking shape,” says Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison.

“Building a new covered arena at the Pony Club is going to be a gamechanger for our local community, giving them a top-tier, all-weather space to train. At the same time, seeing the old Prestige Mill site cleared for the Queen Street housing development marks a big step forward in tackling our local housing shortage.”
