Road Safety Works Resume on Mount William Road

Drivers are advised that construction crews have returned to Mount William Road to continue important road safety improvement works and are active on the section between Yalla-Y-Poora Road and Armstrong Road.

This significant infrastructure upgrade is being delivered through a $1.25 million investment from Council and a $5 million grant from the Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program to reconstruct the road, making it wider and smoother for trucks, tourists and residents alike.

As part of the project, the section of Mount William Road between Gordon’s Bridge Road and Yalla-Y-Poora Road was rebuilt last year.

Ararat Rural City Council Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said Council had deliberately timed the project to minimise disruption to the community.

“We understand how important Mount William Road is for our farming community and tourism operators,” said Cr Sanders. “Council waited until harvest was complete and the bulk of summer tourist traffic had passed before resuming works. This timing helps reduce the impact on local businesses, freight operators and visitors.”

Motorists are urged to take extra care when travelling through the area, with the speed limit reduced to 40km/h within the designated work zone to ensure the safety of workers and road users. Drivers should factor in potential delays in their travel plans.

“Council thanks the community for its patience and cooperation while works continue. When finished, this busy section of road is going to a much safer and comfortable to use,” said Cr Sanders.
