Slow down and see art differently at Ararat Gallery TAMA
Ararat Gallery TAMA is inviting the community to switch off their screens and experience art at a gentler pace at its final Analog Art Club session for 2026, on Saturday 14 November from 2pm to 3.30pm.
Led by Visual Arts Coordinator Katy Mitchell, the session offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the Gallery’s current exhibitions through guided slow-looking exercises, conversation and observational drawing. Rather than moving quickly between artworks, participants will be encouraged to pause, reflect and explore what they notice.
The relaxed, phone-free experience welcomes people aged 14 and over, with no art experience required and all materials provided. It is a chance to connect with art and other people in an inclusive setting, away from everyday digital distractions.
“Slow looking gives us permission to pause and spend time with an artwork, rather than feeling we need to see everything at once,” Ms Mitchell said. “You don’t need an art background or drawing skills to take part. This is about being curious, noticing details and enjoying the different perspectives people bring. We’re inviting people to experience the Gallery in a reflective way and discover what happens when we give art a little more of our attention.”
Analog Art Club is a statewide initiative of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria and ArtsHub, bringing people together through screen-free experiences in galleries across Victoria.
The final Ararat session will be held at Ararat Gallery TAMA on Saturday 14 November, from 2pm to 3.30pm. Tickets are $5, with pre-bookings appreciated to assist with seating arrangements. A minimum of three participants is required for the session to run. Participants are asked to keep their phones on silent and tucked away in a bag or pocket.
Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Bob Sanders, said supporting local galleries helped keep arts and cultural experiences accessible to the whole community. “Our local galleries are places where people can come together, share ideas and experience something outside their everyday routine,” Cr Sanders said. “Supporting Ararat Gallery TAMA means making the most of a wonderful community asset right here on our doorstep. This session is an opportunity to step inside, take your time and enjoy the art.”
