Warrak Workshop to Help Residents Prepare for Emergencies
Ararat Rural City Council is encouraging Warrak, Buangor and other district residents to come together for a free emergency planning workshop and community consultation at the Warrak Public Hall on Wednesday 10 December.
The emergency planning workshop, delivered in partnership with the Victoria State Emergency Service, will run from 6 pm to 9 pm and help residents understand local risks, prepare household plans, and know what to do before, during, and after an emergency. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share local knowledge, and get practical advice tailored to the Warrak community.
Ahead of the workshop, Council will host a drop-in session between from 2pm -5pm at the hall to discuss upcoming works on the Buangor Ben Nevis Bridge, and to hear from residents about local access, safety, and transport needs. Council staff will be on hand to talk through the planned works, collect feedback, and answer questions from the community.
Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the evening was a chance for residents to get informed, get prepared, and have their say on future works in their area. “This workshop is about giving people the confidence and information they need before an emergency hits, and making sure the plans for the Buangor Ben Nevis Bridge reflect how locals live, work, and travel,” Cr Sanders said. “When people come together in the hall, have a cuppa, and talk through what matters to them, that is when good planning really happens and our smaller communities are at their strongest.”
Cr Sanders encouraged residents to make the most of having emergency services and Council staff in the room on the same night. “Whether you want to fine-tune your fire plan, learn more about flood or storm preparation, or talk about how the bridge works might affect your property or daily trip, this is the time to come along and speak directly with the people involved,” he said. “Everyone who calls Warrak and the surrounding district home is welcome, and no prior knowledge is needed to take part in the workshop.”
The community consultation will start at 5 pm, followed by the emergency planning workshop from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Warrak Public Hall. Light refreshments will be provided, and registrations for the workshop can be made via Council’s website or by contacting Ararat Rural City Council on (03) 5355 0200 | Email: [email protected].
