Winter Life Drawing Classes At Ararat Gallery TAMA

Life drawing sessions at Ararat Gallery TAMA are welcoming participants back this winter, with the popular 2026 program now approaching its halfway mark.

Running throughout the year, the sessions have already attracted a mix of returning artists and first-time participants, building a relaxed and supportive creative community.

Each two-hour session invites participants to work from a life model through a series of timed warm-up sketches and longer exercises, designed to build confidence and skill in capturing the human form.

Importantly, the program remains highly accessible. All materials are provided, including easels, drawing boards, butchers’ paper, charcoal, and seating, allowing participants to simply book in and focus on the experience. No prior experience is required, making the sessions ideal for beginners as well as those looking to refine their technique.

The program is led by respected local artist and educator Bev Isaac, whose depth of experience and approachable teaching style have been central to the program’s success.

Based in nearby Stawell, Ms Isaac has been teaching life drawing since 1987, when she ran her first class at Gasworks in South Melbourne. Since relocating to Deep Lead in 2008, she co-operates Chalk Circle, producing large-scale pavement art for festivals across Australia and internationally, alongside school programs and workshops. The Chalk Circle Gallery, now located on Main Street in Stawell, continues to contribute to the vibrancy of the local arts scene.

Mayor Cr Bob Sanders said the continued success of the life drawing sessions reflects the community’s appetite for meaningful, hands-on creative opportunities. “These sessions offer a chance to step out of the everyday, particularly during winter, and try something different in a welcoming and supportive environment,” Cr Sanders said. ”You’ll find it’s a friendly group, an experienced tutor, and a unique creative experience right here at Ararat Gallery TAMA.”

Each session is suitable for ages 18 and over, with exemptions available for VCE art students by arrangement. Places are strictly limited to maintain a comfortable studio environment and ensure every participant receives individual guidance.

Session dates and times:

  • Thursday 25 June, 5.45pm – 8pm
  • Thursday 23 July, 5.45pm – 8pm
  • Wednesday 19 August, 5.45pm – 8pm
