You asked, we listened! Good news for dog owners as shelter installation begins

Construction of two metal shelters is among the works underway at Ararat Dog Park.

The upgrades are being carried out in response to feedback from the local community to enhance the existing facility by providing valuable shade structures.

Located off Vincent Street and Alexandra Avenue, the Ararat Dog Park is fully fenced and provides a safe area for dogs to engage in playful exercise, training, and socialisation.

Ararat Rural City Council CEO, Dr Tim Harrison said these upgrades will improve the already popular dog park.

“In response to community feedback, we’re installing two steel shelters to make the space more accessible for dog owners,” Dr Harrison said.

“This upgrade will provide welcome shelter from wet weather and shade during the warmer months, making it more appealing for current and future users. “Improving facilities in our region encourages a healthier, more active and connected community. The off-leash dog park is situated along an active corridor in Ararat – it has been a great addition to the parks precinct and these shelters will further support active recreation for families and their pooches.”

Construction of the two shelters will be complete within the fortnight. The shelters are positioned at the eastern end of the off-leash dog park, accessible off Vincent Street and Alexandra Avenue.

To ensure the park is enjoyable for all, we have a few tips for visitors:

  • Ensure your dog is under constant supervision and voice control
  • Please clean up after your pet
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times
