About

Golden Plains Shire Councils Youth Development Program provides meaningful and youth informed opportunities for young people who live in Golden Plains Shire aged 12 – 25 years to connect, learn and lead.

Golden Plains Shire Councils 2022 – 2024 Youth Development Action Plan has been informed by responses to the 2021 Golden Plains Shire Youth Survey and connections to the 2021 – 2025 Council and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.

The plan is based on the following three key functions areas:

Connect

Providing opportunities for young people across our various communities to form new friendships and connections with their community. This includes weekly youth spaces and the delivery of our FReeZA program which provides up to 5 large scale youth led events per calendar year.

Learn

Offering unique and valuable opportunities to build young people’s skills, knowledge and experience. This includes work readiness training (Responsible Service of Alcohol, Barista Skills, Resume and Cover Letter writing) and Teen Mental Health First Aid training.

Lead

Enabling platforms for young people to be involved in decision making and planning that affects them. This includes representation and participation in the Regional Youth Voice Program, a partnership with City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire and Colac Otway Shire where representative discuss issues affecting young people in our region and develop solutions to address them.
