Moyston

About Moyston

Moyston is a beautiful stopping point on the main tourist road to the Grampians between Ararat and Halls Gap.

As the birthplace of AFL, it is no wonder that Moyston’s Longest Kick competition is such a highlight of the Easter Market, with contestants travelling great distances to showcase their kicking skills.

The monument to Tom Wills stands opposite the entrance to the Recreation Reserve were visitors can kick a football on the grounds of the MCG (Moyston Cricket Ground) where it all started.

The discovery of gold in 1857 started a gold rush and the establishment of the Moyston township with the population peaking at around 30,000.

Moyston is now a tiny town with a huge heart with a range of community dinners and events creating a warm and vibrant community.

The Moyston General Store and Café provides a unique culinary experience and a lovely welcoming atmosphere, where the history of Moyston is literally written on the floor. Wine lovers also know Moyston for its quality red wine which can be enjoyed on a huge alfresco area.
