Grampians and Bayindeen fires
On Tuesday 13 February 2024, a significant fire event occurred in the Grampians, heavily impacting the locations of Pomonal, Lake Fyans, Bellfield and Halls Gap.
On Thursday 22 February 2024, a fire started in the Bayindeen/Mt Cole forest, and affected state forest and many properties in the locations of Amphitheatre, Bayindeen, Ben Nevis, Chute, Elmhurst, Eversley, Glenlogie, Glenpatrick, Mount Cole, Mount Lonarch, Raglan and Beaufort.

After securing a Bushfire Hazard Landscape Assessment for the Pomonal area, Council assembled a panel of ‘preferred contractors' to serve as an easily-accessed resource for Pomonal residents seeking fire risk assessment to assist in rebuilding homes.
Process
- Residents contact consultant/s and identify if they are happy with a particular consultant and proposed timeframes for a report to be completed. Once they have selected one consultant, they are to notify the Recovery Officer (Council) advising their preferred consultant.
- Recovery Officer will arrange a purchase order and email the consultant with order number confirming their appointment. The resident will be copied into this email to confirm the appointment. If the resident does not have email the Recovery Officer will contact the resident directly advising of the appointment.
- Residents contact consultant and arrange a time for site inspection.
- Consultant to complete report and provide to resident.
- Consultant provides a copy of the report to Council with an invoice.
- Council approves and remits the invoice.
